I'm Sascha.

My practice focuses on Visual Documentary and Archival work. Engaging with communities, their eldest and youngest, I aspire to create a divergent approach to tell stories. This is anchored in the belief that many communities do not get their voice heard within the wider noise of negative news spread by (Western) media.

Using a Community Engagement approach, I focus on visualising, contextualising, and delivering on their history, their personal and collective back-stories but also aim to deliver an insight into the potential of these communities and how to preserve and protect their legacies. From a geopolitical perspective, it is important to understand conflict both on a global scale but also community level. It is not always about war and destitution, but sometimes a turn in history means a change of fortune that creates a blemish on a community or creates a springboard to something new. It may need a conduit to tell its story by potentially using me as a facilitator. It is about listening, recording, and representing these communities.

Images emerge when I am one with the story, the challenges and the opportunities. Using video and audio enhances my approach to capture the moments. Portraits are intimate even in public settings. Whether it is utilising my Leica for unobtrusive work or my Nikon in the field, the objective is always the same: can we see their emotions, unedited.
